Multiple OS experiments in a single JATOS experiment

Hi All,

I am making an experiment which will be comprised of 3 experiments created in Open sesame. It is easy for me to import a study and select the zip file for one study, but I am having some trouble adding the other elements.

What I did is I exported the experiment as a JATOS study, and the add component in JATOS is asking me for the html. So, I copied the html file form the folder fo the new experiment (renamed it) along with the osexp file in the folder fo my initial experiment, the one that was uploaded first. I then inserted the name of the html file fo the new experiment in the add component section.

Unfortunately, the added experiment does not run. I check the html file, and it refers to the osexp file that is present in the folder. Is that something else that needs to be copied. Because I thought since both experiments were osexp it would be able to run with just the new component.

If I import it as a separate study, the experiment runs fine. Is there any way to copy components from one JATSO experiment to another. I have only found the clone option, but that only does it within the same experiment.

I don't know that much about how OSWeb codes its components, so it might also be a good idea to check with them. But first, have you seen this previous question? Maybe it helps:

Indeed my second study did not have anything in the JSON field, I copied what was in the other study. But the second component still gives me na error message. The problem is that it cannot find the html file to the second study "A problem occurred:

HTML file 'test_production.html' in study assets '0263df015e9293997d5a84739183e416' couldn't be found. Please change this in the component's properties." but the file is placed there.

I have now tried putting all the components in a single file, as was done in the thred you referred me to, and I cannot import the study at all (I tired as a new study). I cannot do it if I choose one of the html files or the osexp file. It seems that i have made things worse :(

Any suggestions?

P.S. I placed all the components in one folder and then zipped it, but the import fails.

I could design a big OS study with all of my components, but I do not want to do that because it would make the experiment heavy and I would lose the possibility of randomisation between the components, which I can implement in JATOS.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to run multiple OSWeb experiments in one JATOS study, each in its own component. Have you tried giving each OSWEB experiment its own subfolder in your study's study assets folder? And in each subfolder you can just copy/paste the whole content from one OSWEB experiment. And in the component properties, for the HTML path, you have to add the subfolder + / + html filename. And copy / paste the JSON input from the original studies.

Hi Kri,

So i tried doing as you said, first uploading the zip file of a single study and then placing the subfolders of the other two studies inside (see screen shot). But this does not seem to work. As I get to the component added in the folder, it gives me the following error message. A problem occurred:HTML file '353c2e4b0ab7e49c790ce9c0f1ead883/index.html' in study assets 'f7056b804145b1cce2380c1073a9e600_2' couldn't be found. Please change this in the component's properties.

Though i was sure, that two years ago when I was adding components, I did this by adding the experiment and renaming the html file of the second component.

Hi Again,

I also tired making a new folder placed in my study_assets_root folder (where all my old experiments are) and adding the three components. I then do not import a study, byt create a new one. I add the components one by one, each with their specified html file. The experiment does not run any of the components now as it cannot find their html file.

How am I supposed to add different OS components? I am running out of options.

I actually realised how foolish I was and while I was doing the correct steps, I was "barking at the wrong tree". I have completely forgotten about the step in Local JATOS. So I did that, imported mys tiudy there and exported a jzip file.

This was not without problems however, as when i run the study locally, it is frozen on the Building experiment structure screen, and the tasks do not start. This also happens with the exported version uploaded to the JATOS server.

I cans end you the files nevertheless.

Hi,

I think I've got it working. I didn't actually check if the next OS experiment starts after one finishes (because the experiment was just too long to try to get to the end). But all three work if I start them independently. It was actually not difficult, I created a new JATOS study and put all three index.html files in there (renamed them). Then I copied all OSWeb folders (css, img, js) from one of the 3 OSWeb studies into the new study. I also copied those and those tmp*.osexp files but I'm not sure they are necessary. I'll send you the study via email.
