Odd values for response time variable

Hello everyone,

I am doing several test-runs of my experiment to check everything is fine and the results are recorded properly, but I found out that the data I get for the variable that register "response time" are not what I expected

As you can see in the image above, I get odd results of the form X,XXXX +X but I was expecting to only get the number of milliseconds until participants press a key. For instance, something like 2.224. I do not know if this has to do with the value assigned to each variable or whether there is a way to change it.

I will appreciate any help in this regard.

Hola @egarcia,

Are you reading these values in Excel? I wonder whether this may have to do with the regional settings on your computer, affecting the way Excel reads certain values. if you open the same file with a simple notepad or text editor, do you get the same strange values? Do you also observe odd values in the response_time column? Could you upload here the csv file where you're observed these strange values?

Yes, I am reading the values in Excel. You may be right because it may have to do with Excel itself. I do get the same strange values in the "response_time" column as you can see here:

But when I open the .cvs file in a note pad, the values seem to be standar numbers with many decimals. I upload the .cvs file here so that you can see them

The problem relates to the settings of your system, not with the csv file. I opened the csv file on my computer and it appears correctly in Excel:

Try opening the csv file in a basic text editor (e.g., notepad on Windows). I bet the values will show correctly there.

You can probably solve it changing your computer's regional settings to United States (Excel should then open the CSV files showing the correct values), or open Excel and then go to Data use the import menu and adjust the settings as required.
