[solved] separate measures in log file

Hey! Many thanks for the great soft - opensesame has been very very helpful!!

I have just one little question - log files saves data after my experiment using just one line - i.e. all the data (responses of participants) stored in A2 cell of Excell (that's the only format log files appear after my experiment). Is there way to save the data using separate cells? I mean first response is saved in A2, second response goes to B2, third - C2 and so on

and hey is there limit in LOG file? it doesnt store all the data from my exp - thanks

The trick is to add the logger item to the sequence item that you use to run a single trial. This will result in a single row of data per trial. There is no limit, so if not all of your data is stored, there is a good chance that you did not select all of the variables that you want to save in the logfile.

Walking through the tutorials is always a good idea, if you're just starting.

the thing is i have around 130 stimuli that i want to present to each subject (every stimulus is presented only once). so i guess classic "trial sequence" does not apply here since every single stimulus is unique. the sequence in my experiment looks like that: fixation->stimulus001->scale->response001->etc. At the end I put logger and it collects all the responses alright, but both Excel and Notepad present all the data in one line (that is quite inconvenient if you have 130 responses)

is there way to log the data so that every single response is stored in a single cell?

another possible option - both in excel and notepad the responses are separated from each other with comma - so will it be possible to read this log file (in matlab or elsewhere?) so that these responses go to different cells (in excel or spss which im gonna use for the data analysis)

Do you mean that you actually have 130 separate sketchpad items, each preceded by a fixation and followed by a response?

What would be a less labour-intensive approach, is to use a loop item to define a single trial sequence (which very much does apply to your design). To do so, create a loop in which you define a variable for the stimulus. I'm assuming this is an image, so let's call the variable img. Set the amount of cycles to 130, then fill out all the image names, one in each row.

Next up is creating the single trial sequence. When you created the loop, you were prompted to select an item to run. Indicate that you want to create a new sequence. To this sequence add a fixation_dot, a sketchpad (for the image), another sketchpad (for the scale), and a keyboard_response (from the information you've provided, this seems to be all of the items that you use, but if you have a slightly different approach, please implement that).

To display the stimulus, go to the first sketchpad. Click on the image tool, then click on the centre of the screen. Select a random image from your file pool, this will now show in the sketchpad. Now, we're going to refer to the variable in our loop, that contains the stimulus names, so each trial will show a different image. To do so, open the script editor (click the little black box in the top right, labeled >_).

Change the following line:

draw image 0.0 0.0 "example.png" scale=1.0 center=1 show_if="always"

to this:

draw image 0.0 0.0 "[img]" scale=1.0 center=1 show_if="always"

This should do it. Also, please have a look at the tutorials I referred to in my previous post, as this is really basic and would have saved you tons of time.
