Difficulties using Mozilla Firefox and Safari as Browsers

Hi everyone,

I created a Hearts and Flowers Task that is supposed to be conducted as an online experiment. However, when I try to run the experiment using Mozilla Firefox as the browser, the data isn't stored. The results-section on MindProbe shows that somebody started the experiment, but the state is "FAIL" and there is a message saying "It's not allowed to reload this component (ID: 14853). Study (ID: 10980) is finished."

Moreover, the task contains audio files for the instructions. When we use Safari as the browser, it is not possible to hear the sound.

Is there a way to fix these issues?

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Hi,

all this you’re describing sounds rather like a OSWeb issues (ie ‘front end’). I'll move the question to their forum, but here are some pointers:

    • For the case of Mozilla + Mac, it seems to me like something stops working on the code (something on the part that OSWeb created), participants reload the study, and only then is when JATOS kicks in and they get the FAILED staus, along with the error message that they’re not allowed to reload. The best is to try to reproduce the error (or the experiment seemingly stopping) and check what error message you get in the console. This might help the OSWeb developers figure out the problem.
    • About the audio - Again, try to identify the error message in the console (that’s in the browser’s developer view - on Safari it’s called Developer tools I think).

Hope this helps, and write again if this turns out not to be OSWeb-related.

    Elisa
