Question about large logBF values in JASP

Hello, everyone!

I used bayestestR to calculate Bayes Factors and got logBF = Inf becouse BF was bigger than the maximum floating-point value (1.797693e+308).

Due to the maximum floating-point value limit, logBF cannot be greater than 709.7827.

At the same time, JASP can report a large logBF ≈ 7000 for my data. I wounder, how JASP is able to produce large logBF values (>709.7827) bypassing the maximum floating-point value limit?

  • I suspect some of the packages just compute everything in logs first, and only at the very end produce a BF rather than a log BF.
