Is it possible to log into the same JATOS account from multiple machines simultaneously?

Hello, our research lab is piloting a study, and we have multiple RA's that will be running participants from different computers. I'm fairly new to using JATOS and I'm having a bit of an issue when I try to log into one JATOS account from different computers. The computer that jatos was set up on is able to log into the account with no issues, however when I try to log in on a different computer, it keeps saying that the password is wrong. So, I am not able to log in on multiple machines to the same JATOS account. I have checked and re-tried the password multiple times, and I feel like I'm missing something, or maybe this just isn't possible. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Hi, do you have JATOS running on a server, or are you running it locally?

You can sign-in with the same JATOS account on different browsers or computers. Just an idea, maybe you have a different keyboard layout or caps-lock is on?

(Also, you can give different users access to the same study, so you don't need to share a password). Just to to Study -> Members and add the person you want to have access to the study by adding their email

Now I'm confused about your setup. Does each computer has its own local JATOS installation? Or do you have one JATOS locally installed on one computer and access this somehow from all the other computers?

One local jatos installation, I'm TRYING to access this one installation from all the other computers. Would this only be possible if I had JATOS running on a server? Sorry if this is obvious I'm not familiar with how this works lol.

Usually, it is not straight forward to access a web-application (like JATOS) that runs on a different computer although in the same network. That stems from how most local networks are set up in modern times.

From JATOS point of view there is no difference between a local and a server installation. Usually a server installation runs on a different port (80 instead of 9000) and uses encryption (https instead of http) but those are usually handled outside of JATOS in a proxy.

Originally the Internet is just a bunch of connected computers and every computer has an IP address and one could just access other computers by its IP. Maybe you have such an network. You can find out the IP from the computer where JATOS is installed (e.g. 1.2.3.4) and try to access JATOS from a different computer with it (e.g. type in the browser's address http://1.2.3.4:9000).

If this does not work you have to figure out a way how to turn your JATOS-computer into a server. You could talk to your IT folks and convince them to lower the restrictions. Or you could use a helper like ngrok (https://www.jatos.org/Expose-your-local-JATOS.html).
