[solved] Mouse Cursor Not Visible in Full Screen Mode

edited October 2014 in OpenSesame

I'm new to OpenSesame and am having an issue getting the mouse cursor to show in full screen mode when using the legacy backend. I know mouse responses are being allowed because I can click the button (after enough clicking around in the dark) so it just seems the cursor won't show. If I switch to xpyriment or psychopy, the cursor is visible but the forms are extremely laggy. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hi,

The mouse is a bit troublesome with the legacy back-end, but there are few ways to make the cursor visible again:

    • Open the legacy back-end settings and set Double buffering to "no". Note that this may disable v-sync, which can be important for time critical experiments.
    • Open the legacy back-end settings and set Custom cursor to "yes".
    • Switch to the xpyriment back-end, and set Use OpenGL to "no" under back-end settings. This will reduce the lag that you experience when using in xpyriment in OpenGL mode.

    Cheers!

    Thanks! This solved it.

  • I'm trying to use the mouse tracking script. Under Windows 7 with Opensesame 2.x the mouse cursor is visible, but when switching to Windows 10 with Opensesame 3.x is is no longer visible. I can find the legacy back-end setting for the double buffering, but not for the custom cursor. Is there a way to find it in the general script editor? For the xpyriment I cannot find the OpenGL option.

    Thanks!

  • I tried Opensesame 3.x under Lubuntu, and I have the same issue with the mouse cursor, so it seems to be the Opensesame version rather than the operating system version. I have tried to install an older 2.x version on Windows 10, but get an error message. Would there be a 2.x version that works under Windows?

    Thanks !

  • Hi All,

I realise this is a very old discussion but I am currently having trouble with my mouse cursor (you can read about my troubles here: https://forum.cogsci.nl/discussion/6452/mouse-cursor-not-visible#latest ) so I have been searching for any kind of solution tot his problem.

I tired the possible solutions suggested by @sebastiaan (the second one was not an option since there is no "Custom Cursor" option), and neither of these suggestions solved my issue: the mouse cursor is still not visible at any point of the experiment.

Does anyone have some other possible solutions I might want to check out?

    Marta
