I don't understand my log files and I need to enter the info into SPSS
Hi
I was hoping someone could help me. I have recently done a memory experiment and I have 20 log files and I do not understand the data at all.
There were 4 conditions, 20 participants and a repeated measure design. The aim was to see how many word in each condition were remembered (they had to press z or m) to identify if colour and/or word type impacted memory. Distractor words (words not in the list given to rememeber) were used also).
I also recorded age and gender (which are the only 2 columns of data i understand)
I have reems of info and no idea what i need to enter in to my spss programme to show the results i need it to
Help anyone please - desperate woman here

Hi Nikki,
The data files contain many columns that you don't need. But it shouldn't be too hard to determine which columns are relevant for you. For example
subject_nris likely one column that you want to keep, as are the columns that correspond to the (independent) variables that you have defined in yourloopitems. If you have recorded key presses in a standard way, then you will also want to keep the (dependent) response variablesresponse,response_time, andcorrect. Perhaps that's all, or maybe you need more; that depends on your experiment. My suggestion would be to first merge all the data files into one large data file. And then remove all columns except for the ones that you need. Don't modify the original data files though! Because, who knows, you might at some point need some of the information that seems useless now.
Cheers!
