Trials missing in data file

I'm testing an experiment on a Jatos server, and when testing, all the trials are run. However, when I download the data from Jatos (where it says 'not finished' even though the run was finished), and convert them to xlsx in OpenSesame, quite a substantial amount of trials are missing. We tested the experiment multiple times and found that each time, even though the experiment fully ran, a (slightly) different number of trials was missing from the data. What could be the cause of this?

  • Hi Afkeve,

This was an issue that had to do with the combination of how OSWeb and JATOS were set up. See one of the other threads with the same problem. (e.g. https://forum.cogsci.nl/index.php?p=/discussion/5934/missing-trials-in-data-file)

It's been fixed since  JATOS version 3.5.3. Which version are you running on your server? Chances are, all you need to do is update JATOS.

  • I'm running JATOS 3.5.4... I'm also using OpenSesame 3.3 and the latest version of OSWeb.

  • JATOS 3.5.4 should be fine. I'm not sure about OpenSesame 3.3. I see that there are several releases with 3.3.x. and I'm not sure when this issue with the sometimes missing data got addressed. Maybe @sebastiaan or @Daniel can help here.

Did you try your experiments on experiments.jatos.org? Does it happen there too? And if yes, then I'd like to see your experiment and check personally. Maybe you can send it to me? Or alternatively, add me as a User of your experiment on experiments.jatos.org: your study -> More -> Change users -> add lange.kristian@gmail.com.

  • Dear Kristian,

I have now adapted my jatos.js file to the one I found in one of your threads. However, the issue isn't solved yet, and now when my experiment is finished, it just stays on a black screen instead of sending all data to Jatos.

I will upload my experiment to experiments.jatos.org, however I cannot login with my google account. Could you provide me with an account? Then I'll upload it there, test it, and add you as a user.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi Afke,

Can you please try to log in to experiments.jatos.org with a different browser?

    Kristian

  • Hi Kristian,

That worked, thanks. I uploaded two versions of my experiment, one with the original version of the jatos.js file and one with the changed version. I will be testing them today or tomorrow and will let you know if the issue remains. Thanks!

    Afke

  • Okay, I'm waiting.

It's weird that the Google sign-in doesn't work in some browsers. I'm using the standard library directly from Google for this. Is it possible for you to tell me which browser it was where the sign-in did not work. And did you get any error messages e.g. in the developer tools of your browser?

    Kristian

  • Hi,

The Google sign-in didn't work in Firefox, but it did work in Safari and Chrome!

I tested the experiment on the experiments.jatos.org server, and my data file seems to be complete, so that's great news!

Do you have any idea what the issue could be with the server in this case? It's a university-run server, so it would be great to know if there's anything I could do to solve the problem.

    Thank you!

    Afke

  • Hi Afke,

You said already that you JATOS' version is 3.5.4. Is this the version of your local AND your remote JATOS (your server JATOS)? I'm asking this because this problem is typical for a problem OpenSesame and JATOS had in previous version. The JATOS on experiments.jatos.org is pretty much a standard JATOS, nothing special. I mean if your experiment works there it should work on your server too - unless you have an older version.

    Best,

    Kristian

  • Yes, the local and remote JATOS are 3.5.4 or later. The server will be updated soon, so I hope the problem will be solved then!

  • Hi Kristian,

Could I ask where the COVID-19 Jatos server is located?

    Best, Afke

  • experiments.jatos.org (aka COVID server) is located in Frankfurt, Germany.

    Best,

    Kristian
