File pool emptied itself

Hello,

I just ran into a strange problem where my file pool emptied itself. I have been running the same OS study on 29 participants with no errors, but the file pool somehow emptied itself on my 30th participant. Strangely enough, when I opened the OS file on a different computer, all the necessary files were still in the file pool.

Does anyone have any idea why this happened, and how to prevent it from occuring again?

Thanks!

  • Update: All my file pools in all my OpenSesame files have emptied themselves now.

  • Hi @hannahl ,

This reminds me of a problem where the file pool was automatically 'cleaned up' by Windows 10, which is a behavior that was introduced in a relatively recent Windows update. However, that only happened when file pool was empty, and it doesn't sound like that was the case for you. A few questions:

    • Are you running the latest version of OpenSesame? (Currently 3.3.5)
    • Are you running Windows 10?
    • If you go into the Windows Settings -> Change how we free up space automatically, you can find an option Delete temporary files that my apps aren't using. Is this enabled? And does the problem go away if you disable the option?

  • Hi Sebastiaan,

Thank you for your reply. I'm running Windows 10 with the latest version of OpenSesame, and I have just disabled the delete temporary files option. I can't tell if the problem has been solved yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it over the next few days.

    Best,

    Hannah
