Converting JATOS results taking forever

edited September 2020 in OSWeb

Hello,

I have quite a batch of data, and it really forces when I use OSWeb tool to convert them to .xlsx ...

Basically what I did was to download all my results as one file and convert it. And since it's downloaded as a .txt file, I tried the convertion in Python too but I am having problems (plus I really don't know how to deal with .json files and a quick Google search confused me more). Is there any way to do this faster or some trick I can use to code to do it?

Update: It took 2 hours. I mean, it works, at least. If you think it's unnecessary we could delete the thread but I am unable :)

Best,

H

  • Hi @hulya ,

The conversion used to be very slow, but in recent versions that has improved to just being slow. Are you running the latest version of OpenSesame / the OSWeb extension?

    Cheers!

  • Hi @sebastiaan ,

Apologies for the late response. I was not using the latest versions back then; today I had to convert some more data so I have updated OpenSesame and OSWeb extension all together. Honestly, it did not really help: conversion took almost all day and at the end it makes the computer super duper slow as well, so I can't multitask while it does the job...

I would like to learn alternatives but I feel I lack some coding skills for that too :(

    Best,

    Hi @hulya ,

Could you maybe send me the data that you're trying to convert, for example by sending me a link through a direct message (so it's not public)? Then I can see what makes it so slow, and what can be done to optimize it.

  • Hi @sebastiaan

(Happy new year and apologies it took me long to get back to the forum)

I unfortunately do not have the chance to share the data at all, but in the end I left the program on and separated the batch to convert in two. That solved the problem...in hours if not a night.

Do you think what makes it slow in general (to learn for future uses of it) is that I didn't clear up the variables, but on top of mine I also accepted what was coming from OS?

    Best,

    H

  • Hi @hulya,

Yes, logging only the necessary variables instead of everything sounds like a good idea in this case.

    Cheers,
