Presentation times in OSWeb
Dear community,
I am planning a web based experiment with JATOS and OSWeb. Is an affective priming with images. I need to show really fast images (optimmaly 16 miliseconds).
It is possible with the Osweb and JATOS? Are there any thing I need to know about it? Like the images format files, etc
Many thanks in advance

Hi @GuidoCor ,
On optimal systems, browser-based experiments can be almost as good (but not quite, at least not yet) in terms of timing as regular experiments. However, your participants likely won't use optimal systems, but rather all kinds of devices, including old and cheap ones with horrible timing. So no, you cannot assume frame-level accuracy when running online experiments in the wild. What you could do, however, is inspect display timestamps afterwards, and use those to filter out trials with obvious temporal inaccuracies. You can read more about this in this preprint.
Hope that's helpful!

many thanks, Sebastiaan.
Is there any difference regarding the image format used?

Hi @GuidoCor ,
The images are preloaded as sprites in PixiJS, so I don't see how the original image format can matter—though of course with so many different browser implementations it's difficult to say with 100% certainty!
