If statements in correct response/sampler

Hi everyone!

We are having some trouble in setting the correct response values in an experiment in which the subject must choose the correct audio between 2.

The experiment is set so that the two audios (the correct and the incorrect one) are randomly assigned to one of two characters shown on the screen to the left and to the right.

The subject must press M if the correct audio is uttered by the character on the left and Z in the opposite case.

Right now we have set a loop table where each audio has a correct response of Z or M to be randomized as shown in the picture below.

We know that audio X.1 is always the correct one but it appears as first or second given the sequence below

The problem is of course that the program doesnt't know that audio X.1 is always the correct one as the selection is made on the image.

We think we might need an IF statement which declares:

IF new_sampler_3 = 1.1 correct_response = m

ELSE correct_response = z

But we don't know how to edit the code accordingly and if indeed this makes sense.

Any feedback or suggestions?

THANK YOU WE ARE NEWBIES OMG.🙏

  • Hi @ClaudiaS13 ,

Can you try to explain again exactly what you want to do? Because right now that's not very clear to me. From the perspective of the participant, what does the trial look like, and what is the task? And from the perspective of the researcher, what are you manipulating and what are you measuring? I would also rename the items so that their names reflect what they are; that makes it much easier to understand the experiment!

  • Hi Claudia,

Additionally, I think your manipulation is conceptually quite similar to the beginner's tutorial. Only that instead of sounds, there images are counterbalanced across left/right. Have you had a look? Might generally be a good idea given that you are newbies ;)
