Vocal Response Times

Dear OpenSesame community,

I am looking for the most recommended method (as of 2023) to get reaction times of a vocal response in an in-lab setting.

I found several ways to approach it here in the forum, but some of the solutions seem to be irrelevant nowadays.

Any suggestions?

    I'm happy to be corrected / updated by someone who has more experience with this than I do! But my guess is that not much has changed in how this is usually done: The loudness of the response is determined, for example by taking the root-mean-square loudness over a time window, and then the onset of the response is the first moment at which this loudness exceeds a certain threshold. This can be done in different ways: online and offline, fully automatically or combined with manual checking, and with absolute or relative thresholds. But the general idea is usually the same.

    There is also an online tool for this, created by the BCBL (which actually does something more elaborate than my description above, described in the accompanying paper):
