Can't get OpenSesame to open on Mac

Hello, hope I am not psoting duplicates comments here.

I can't get the recent (or any!) version of Opensesame to work on a MacBook (M2 2023) - has anyone successfully resolved this? I have tried all recommended ways to open apps by unidentified developers, these work for other downloads but not for OpenSesame for some reason.

Thanks!

  • Hi @rybickia ,

There should be no issue running OpenSesame on the latest MacBooks, although the experience of starting it the first time is unfortunately not very user-friendly:

    1. Install the app
    2. Launch it. This takes a while and then results in Mac OS blocking it because it's not from an untrusted developer. (Apple's way to 'protect the user' and to extort developers into paying them.)
    3. Go to security settings. This shows a message saying that OpenSesame has been blocked. Click on it to allow OpenSesame to be run.
    4. Launch OpenSesame again. This again takes a while, but it will start.

You probably tried something close to this already, but this is just to confirm that this indeed will work!

Of course you can also install OpenSesame through Anaconda, but that shouldn't be necessary.

  • Hi Sebastiaan,

Trying this again after a few months - it does not work, unfortunately. It might be because I am using a Uni-managed laptop. I will try the anaconda option but am curious as to whether other mac users are having issues?
