JASP Newbie questions

I am new to JASP and have a few questions:

  1. Could you recommend a good starting point for learning JASP, such as a quick tutorial or a concise guide?
  2. I noticed that there is both JASP and JAMOVI. Are these two programs similar, or is there a significant reason to choose one over the other? I plan to perform basic statistical analyses (e.g., descriptive statistics, T-tests, ANOVA, regression, some non-parametric tests, survival analysis) but nothing highly sophisticated.
  3. If I perform analyses in JASP and later modify or filter cases in the data editor, will the analyses automatically update to reflect the new data? If not, how can I ensure that the analyses are recalculated based on the updated data?
  4. Could you recommend a good resource or quick-start guide for conducting power analyses? I see that JASP offers this functionality, but I need more information to properly fill in all the required parameters.
  5. I created a "Residual vs. Dependent" Residual Plot in the Linear Regression module and saved it as a PNG file. However, I noticed that the "Standardized Residuals" label is slightly cut off on the right side. Is there a way to add margins to the image to prevent this from happening?

    Hello! Here are some answers:

    1. The JASP website is a hub for all things JASP. For instance, check out https://jasp-stats.org/jasp-materials/
    2. That similarity is not a coincidence, as it is the work of the programmers who I initially hired to help set up JASP. I have some personal thoughts on their endeavor, but I will say that they are excellent programmers, and apparently still actively developing their software. I have not looked at it in a long time, but I suspect that many people have both installed. There are other open-source alternatives as well, by the way.
    3. Yes, all analyses will be automatically updated.
    4. I think that the standard texts on power analysis should be useful. If you have a specific question you can post it here (and I can attend Richard Morey to it as well)
    5. I don't think this is possible right now. I usually save the image as a pdf and then do some post-processing in a different program. It would be a good feature request for our GitHub page (for details see https://jasp-stats.org/2018/03/29/request-feature-report-bug-jasp/)
