[solved] Failed to load sample in sampler "sampler": 'ascii' codec can't encode characters

edited June 2014 in OpenSesame

Hi!

I'm an OpenSesame user in Korea!

I'm not sure where the problem comes from, but I'm keeping getting this notice when I try my experiment.

'Failed to load sample in sampler "sampler": 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 9-11: ordinal not in range(128)'

I put in the file pool my .ogg files without using any Korean letters and still tried to find out what the problem is but wasn't able to solve it out...

Please, help. Thanks!

    Hi,

(You opened four discussion for the same question. I assume that this was by accident, but in the future please stick to a single discussion!)

Regarding your question, and as you may have guessed, the sampler had problems with non-ascii characters in filenames. Even when you don't use Korean characters in the filenames per se, the file pool is extracted to a temporary folder that may contain special characters. So that's probably happening on your system.

Luckily, this issue has been fixed in the upcoming 2.8.2 release, for which you can download a pre-release already:

If the issue persists in the latest pre-release of 2.8.2, please let me know.

    Cheers!

    Hi Sebastiaan,

    Thank you! It works now!

(And sorry for the several discussions I uploaded...
I clicked several times because of the buffering problem and when I saw so many discussions that were posted, I really wanted to delete them but couldn't find how. :( )

Anyways, thank you again! All my colleagues and I truly appreciate for all your work.

    Cheers!
