[open] problem with recording device

edited October 2014 in OpenSesame

Hi everyone,
in an experiment with OpenSesame we've come across a problem with the sound recorder plugin. The experiment lasts for about 15 minutes and for the first 5-8 minutes of the experiment everything works fine but for the last part (the second half of the experiment) the recording device doesn't seem to work properly (saved recordings become inaudible/are shortened). We've tried to change computer/microphon etc...any idea where this might come from?
Thanks a lot!
Teresa

    Hi Teresa,

Just a guess: Maybe it is an issue with RAM? How much RAM has your recording PC? The easiest thing would be to try out running the experiment on a different PC (preferably with more RAM) and see if the problem persists.

    Good luck,
    Johannes

    Hi Johannes,

thanks for your response. We've already tried different PCs but nothing changed...

    Hi Teresa,

Just to clarify, in your experiment you start recording at some point while other things happen on the screen (part 1 and 2 ?) and when it comes to the 2nd part, the recording fails? Or do you record multiple files for each part of your experiment?

I'm not sure what the problem is, but if it is really memory related, you can try to reduce the sampling rate and see whether you can record longer before the trouble starts.

    Hi Eduard,

no actually the participants always see pictures on a screen, hear a sentence and then have to repeat this sentence. All in all this experiments last for about 15 minutes and the recordings for the first 6-7 minutes or so are always ok but the rest is inaudible.

    Hi Teresa,

So basically, you get a new sound file for a every trial? Did you check whether you obtain more "good" recordings if you reduce the sampling rate?

Maybe we can help if you provide us with a little more detail how exactly you are using the sound recording plugin? If you like you can also upload screenshots.

    Good luck,
    Eduard

    Hi,

I've tried another computer and somehow it does work on this one, the recordings are fine now. But for some reason the experiment always stops before the end of the experiment. So, the experiment is just saved at trial 44 instead of 54. Do you know where my this might come from? It's the exact same experiment (I've checked the sript) but this doesnt happen on the other computer.

    Thanks

What exactly happens? Does the experiment crash? I.e. do you see some kind of error message in the debug window, or (in case of a hard crash under Windows) in opensesame.exe.log, which is located in the OpenSesame program folder?

If you see no error message, then it's probably a bug in the experiment itself. In that case, could you post the experimental script, for example to pastebin?

    Cheers!
