[open] Voice key to trigger an event online
Hi all,
I'm looking to do an experiment where a stimulus presentation is triggered by the subject speaking. So I'm wondering if OpenSesame can handle that. I've looked at the voice-key code that Sebastiaan wrote and, as I understand it, it can measure the RT of speech onset and save it to file, but can it do that fast enough for the speech onset to be used to trigger events online? Alternatively, does anyone have any good hardware suggestions for a voice-key system?
Thanks,
Mark

This code analyzes auditory input online, so in principle yes, it can be used to trigger events online. Since it's quite easy to implement this, I would just check to see if it feels snappy enough for your purpose. The timing of audio, both input and output, is quite variable from system to system.
I know people that use the voicekey that's built into the PST SR Box. That works, although it's quite expensive, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
Cheers!
Sebastiaan

Hi,
Thanks Sebastiaan, I'll try playing around with it.

hi Mark!
I'm trying to build a picture naming test using Open Sesame and I'm stuck in your old point: how is possible recording voice and response time?
I've read you had the same trouble in building your experiment. How did you fixed it?
Thanks!
