[open] Runtime Error while adjusting script of form plug-in

  Hi guys,

  After this happens, is there a file called opensesame.exe.log in the OpenSesame program folder? If so, could you post the content of this file here?

  Hi,

  sorry, can't find such a file. Where exactly should it be? Since I have gathered more experience with this error by now I would say it happens, when I start working on a widget but leave it incomplete for a moment e.g. to copy a text that I want to insert after 'text='. I don't know whether this helps...

  Hi Jasmin,

  Thanks for the details. Does the following describe the issue well?

  1. You edit the script of an item, in your case form_base, but any other item will show the same problem.
  2. You change one line so that it's incomplete and syntactically invalid.
  3. You switch to another application, or to another part of OpenSesame.
  4. OpenSesame crashes without warning or error message.

  I cannot reproduce this, which is annoying, but not unheard of--these kinds of crashes can be very unpredictable. But I have an idea where it comes from, and it may already be (unintentionally) resolved in the 3.0.2 prerelease:

  Could you give 3.0.2a1 a thorough test to see if you can still trigger the error?

  Hi Sebastiaan,

  the four points you mentioned describe the error quite well. Form_text_display item produces the same error. I tried to produce the same error in the new version and I received a different error message. The program doesn't crash anymore but I receive this:

  TypeError: super(type, obj): obj must be an instance or subtype of type
  

  and this: 'Error parsing variable definition: "set description " ' in the debug window, respectively.

  Hi Jasmin,

  Well, that's some improvement: At least OpenSesame stays alive. But clearly the fundamental problem isn't resolved. Which version of Windows are you using exactly?

  I'm using Windows 7 Professional.
