[open] Using integrated camera on tablet within OpenSesame
Hi,
This might be a long shot but does anyone have experience with accessing the integrated camera on a tablet using the Droid back-end in OpenSesame? I'm trying to design a simple but mobile anti-saccade task on my Nexus 7. Any help or tips would be appreciated!

Hi Laurent,
Unfortunately, you cannot access cameras from the OpenSesame Android runtime. So--aside from the non-trivial problem of using a webcam as an eye-tracker--this won't work! If you want to develop a mobile eye-tracking system, I would say your best bet is to use a Windows tablet with an EyeTribe eye tracker. That doesn't need to be expensive, it works with OpenSesame, and it gives you a real eye tracker.

Hi Sebastiaan,
Thanks for the reply, i've looked into the EyeTribe and it seems like a very affordable and nice solution. I'll try the tech department here if they are willing to purchase one
We were also thinking about alternative sensory inputs to integrate within a few (standard) tasks but are unable to figure out if they are currently possible. Maybe you or anyone else has an idea:
Most tablets work with a capacative touchscreen yielding a small electrical field. Is there a way to pick up the voltage gradient along with the location and timing of the response?
Similarly, the force associated with the response could be an interesting measurement as well. Any way to find this? And can these be called upon from within OpenSesame or will it come down to using a custom rom?
Thanks!
Laurent
