[solved] Pair stimuli and change position

edited December 2015 in OpenSesame

Hi!

I have many stimuli (images), of two different kind, to show. I want them to be paired by a certain meaning, to change position when showed again, but in some trials I need them to be paired by another method.

how can I do this?

Thank you for your help!

    Hi,

Your question is not specific enough! What exactly do you want to do? If you want to get a useful answer, you'll need to provide a detailed description of:

    • what you want to do;
    • what you have done so far; and
    • why this doesn't work as you want it to.

    Cheers,

Hi! I'm sorry, I'll try to be more specific.

I have to kind of stimuli, curved images and shaped images. I want to show them in pair, so that the participant will see one image on the left and other on the right of the screen.
When I put the images into the loop-variables, they are paired all-with-all, as in the image that I post. Instead, I want them to be paired just with it's corresponding, so 1a with 1c, 2a with 2c, 3a with 3c and so on.

Moreover, I want that the curved images won't be shown only on the left side but casually on the right side.

To complicate, some times the stimuli need to be paired as for example 1a with 7a, as distractors.

I hope I've explained better. Thank you for your help!

    Hi Tommaso,

If i read it correctly you can do all those things within the menu of the loop item. First, simply remove all the rows of the combinations which you do not want to present. Second, add two more variables that contain the x-coordinates, for example -350 and 350. Now you should have two rows for every stimulus pair, one where the curved has the left coordinate and the angular the right coordinate, and vice versa. Next, go to the script sketchpad where you present the stimuli and change the value of x to the variable. Your curved stimuli will now be presented left half of the trials and right the other half.

As for your distractor, add another row that pairs your picture with the distractor. You only want to present the distractor occasionally, so go to the apply weights function in the loop item and specify the proportion distractors/targets.

I hope this is clear enough!
