[solved] From Windows to Mac

edited January 2016 in OpenSesame

Dear all,

I created an experiment using OpenSesame on windows (3.0) but I'm facing issues when running it on laptop (maybe the laptops I'm using are not fast enough to get my experiment running at a decent speed).

I was wondering if there was any way to save this experiment to make it run on Mac, so using an older version of OpenSesame (2.9.7)?

Many thanks for your help!

    Hi Eglantine,

What kind of issues are you facing in particular? Only performance? Or do also other things don't work. As far as I know, the Mac version of Opensesame 3.0 is still a bit unstable. If you give more detail (and maybe share your experiment) we might be able to help you fixing it.

In general, it is not possible to save an experiment that was created in OpenSesame 3.0.x in a format that OpenSesame 2.9.x can open (or is there some trick, I'm not aware of @Sebastiaan ?). So if you wanna go for running it on your Mac with 2.9.x, you should probably also program it with this version.

    Hope this helped.

    Good luck,

    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,
Thanks for your quick answer. Yes I'm facing performance issue as the experiment is running very slowly: when I lick on the 'Next' button or try select a widget (Likert scale), the response time from the computer is more than 3sec. I'm studying emotion and mood so such delay would result in an alteration of my results...

Here the structure of my experiment
    file:///N:/Desktop/exp1.png
(with another PANAS loop at the end after the recall)

Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

    Many thanks!

I can't open your image. It seems you have posted a local address.
Well, form tend to be slow, especially if they contain many widgets. So, one solution (if not already the case) is having as few widgets as possible on your forms. Other than that, I don't know much what can be done.
Btw. are these performance issues specific to the 3.0 version of OpenSesame, or do they also occur in the older ones?

    does this work better?
I tend to have 5 to 6 questions per page, each question answered with a 5-point Likert scales. I use an inscript to present the questions in a random order

I only use OpenSesame 3.0 but I don't have any performance issue on my computer, only on laptops...

    Many thanks for your help!

    Hi Eglantine,

It sounds like you're using forms in combination with the xpyriment or psycho backend; this can indeed result in horrible performance. However, in most cases switching to the legacy backend resolves this.

    Does this work for you?

    Cheers,
    Sebastiaan
