constant crashes in OpenSesame
Hello!
I was really pleased to stumble upon OpenSesame! I'm hoping to use this platform for my research.
I have been going through the beginner's tutorial, but the program crashes, usually when I try to save variables using the "full-factorial design" button. The program doesn't respond, and when I try to close it, Windows gives me the error message: pythonw.exe is not responding.
At present, I'm trying to do this on a desktop computer running Windows 10. I can certainly try it out on one of my other machines if need be.
I'm really hoping that there is a quick solution to this problem, as the platform looks to be perfect for my research.
Thanks!
Bryn

Hi Bryn,
Quickly testing with OpenSesame 3.1.2 on Windows10 (64bit) I couldn't reproduce the problem by using the Full-factorial design button. Could you describe the exact steps to reproduce the crash? Ideally in a simple experiment like the Default template.
Best,
Jarik
Hi Jarik,
Thanks for your response. My problem appears when I try to follow the Beginner Tutorial. I can get as far as entering the levels of the independent variables into the Block Loop, but when I click "OK" the program freezes. I've attached a few screenshots.
Here I have everything set up according to the tutorial.

I click on "Full-Factorial Design."

I enter the levels of the independent variables.

I click "OK" and the program crashes.

I've tried this on 3 different machines (Win 10 desktop, Surface Pro 3, and Win 7 desktop).
For what it's worth, I seem to be able to edit loops just fine when I put in a few junk variables, but for whatever reason when I follow the tutorial step-by-step, this always happens.
Hi Bryn,
You're telling OpenSesame to generate an 8*8*8*8*8*8 design, which corresponds to a little over a quarter of a million trials. This, combined with that the loop table is admittedly a little slow, causes OpenSesame to freeze while doing so for a long time.
What you're entering in the wizard should probably just go directly in the loop. Right?
Cheers!
Sebastiaan
