[open] choppy video in both gst and vlc

edited January 2015 in OpenSesame

Hi there — I'm getting pretty choppy video in both gst and vlc.

see screen capture: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B37emGJjrWcfUGpYeDBsNlBtbGM/view?usp=sharing

The videos are encoded in H.264 at 60fps — is there some other format I should be using? anything lower than 60fps makes these simple shapes appear choppy in a native player, so if possible I'd like to keep that framerate.

Could I maybe prepare these files in the opensesame script?

[nb. trying out the same videos in PsychoPy at the moment, which may be a better fit for this particular experiment]

    Hi Samuel,

In case you're still struggling with this (or for someone who encounters the same issue in the future): Have you tried switching to another backend, or playing around with the back-end properties? I don't know the details of how video playback is implemented, but this may avoid cpu-intensive operations on each video frame.

Cheers and the best of luck with your experiment!
