[open] USB port input (Griffin Powermate)

edited September 2015 in OpenSesame

Hi we have the Griffin Powermate (https://support.griffintechnology.com/product/powermate/) usb input device, which we want to use as a response button in our experiment. However, OpenSesame does not seem to detect it? We utilized the SRBox plug in but it does not autodetect and when we input the device name it provides an error of not detecting. Any ideas of how to handle this?
Thank you!!

    Hi,

From their website, it seems like the Griffin Powermate sends keyboard commands. If that is correct, you should simply be able to use the keyboard_response item to collect input from the Griffin. Does that work?

In any case, it's a very different device from the SR Box. The SR Box really has its own communication protocol, which requires a special plug-in that won't work with any other device (unless it emulates the SR Box).

    Cheers,
    Sebastiaan

If you install the latest Powermate software (http://download.cnet.com/Griffin-PowerMate/3000-18493_4-176429.html), you will see an emulator. (didn't play for me on win8).
Inside the emulator you have to press the (+) symbol, in order to add the opensesame application.
Then you can emulate, for example, a specific keyboard response for down-move of the button. If you do this, you will be able to use the keyboard_response in order to collect input from Griffin, as Sebastian said above.
