[solved] Which drift correction in open sesame?

edited January 2014 in OpenSesame

Hi Sebastiaan,

It says in the eye-link 1000 manual that "the default drift correction behavior of the EyeLink 1000 system when in pupil-CR mode is to only report the calculated fixation error from the drift correction procedure and to not actually adjust the calibration map in any way", but the calibration map adjustment is still possible. Which does libeyelink.drift_correction carry out?

Thanks,

Markku

    Hi Markku,

To be honest, I wasn't aware of this. The Eyelink plug-ins simply use the default, so indeed it will not perform an actual drift correction. I've never noticed this, which suggests (as they also claim in the manual) that drift correction is not necessary any more with the Eyelink 1000. Still... it's kind of discomforting to suddenly find this out.

Perhaps you could inquire on the SR Research forum whether we have understood this correctly and what the pros and cons of enabling drift correction on the Eyelink 1000 are (and please let me know!)?

For now, you can enable drift correction it with the following script (based on the manual, not tested):

    exp.eyelink.send_command('drift_correct_cr_disable = OFF')

    Thanks for pointing this out!

    Cheers,
    Sebastiaan
