[solved] Problem with Spanish accents

edited November 2015 in OpenSesame

Hi there!

First of all I apologise if this question has been answered before, but I haven't been able to find any information on the matter :-((

So, I have designed an experiment in Spanish and it works, it logs perfectly, etc. However, when I export the data into Excel, I end up with something like this: El perro mordió a la cuñada del maestro.

It should read: El perro mordió a la cuñada del maestro.

Basically, the program is not recognising Spanish accents and letters ("ñ" in this case). Any tips please? I am really at a loss here :(

Thanks a lot!

    Hi,

If you have accents or non-Latin characters, you need to indicate exactly how these are represented: the character encoding. OpenSesame uses utf-8, but this is not the default character encoding on Windows. (Although it's usually recognized correctly.)

When you open the spreadsheet in Excel, you should be able to indicate the encoding. When you do this, you should see that the characters appear correctly. (I don't use Excel myself, so I don't know the exact process.)

    Does that clear things up?

    Cheers,
    Sebastiaan
