[open] Multicolored text in a single line

Hi Sebastiaan,

I'm trying to design an experiment where participants read a paragraph of text with different words highlighted in different colors, like so:

"Elena es una artista. Le encanta el arte y colecciona los dibujos de flores y las pinturas de paisajes."

The problem is that I'm not able to change the color of just one word in a line without changing everything the color of all of the words, or creating a new line. While using a screenshot of the text is an option, I'd prefer to work with just text and markup if possible. Would this be possible with some scripting? I tried using html.HTML() in a custom script with the marked-up text, but none of the colors were displayed.

Hi Ddericco,

No, I'm afraid I cannot think of a better way to accomplish this than using pictures of the text.

This might be a worthwhile feature to consider for the next version, though (minimal HTML-support in general, not just colours). Right now I'm building a widget set (buttons, checkboxes, etc.) that integrates much better with OpenSesame than the system that is used by the current questionnaire plug-ins, which is a bit of an awkward add-on. I'd be nice if some formatting is supported, so I'll take a look at it.

Hi Sebastiaan,

That would be a great feature to add in! Right now I'm using a modified version of the open_question plugin to display a picture and a text input field underneath it, but I think having some HTML support would take care of both the colored text and possibly even the picture display. Thanks for your help!

Fyi, in OpenSesame 0.27 there is some new functionality that is related to your question:
