video plug-in in next version?

edited September 2011 in OpenSesame
Hi,
I'm having a lot of trouble getting the media plug-in to work when running from source (I've tried on a couple of computers, but it doesn't seem to be working). Is there any chance that the media plug-in will be one of the built ins in the next version of OpenSesame (is that even possible)?
Thanks!
Mark

    Hi Mark,

Yeah, it would be much better if the media_player was included in all distributions (right now it's only included in the Windows binary). The problem is that it contains some non-standard dependencies, but we should be able to package it anyway. I know Daniel is planning to make changes to the underlying mechanism for video playback, so that may improve things as well. All I can say right now is that the media_player is under active development.

Btw, I haven't forgotten your previous post. Daniel is away on a holiday, so I may take a look at it myself this weekend, because it's not good that the page is outdated.

And finally, I have a question for you! You're using OpenSesame on a Mac, right? Here on this forum, someone has a problem with flushing key presses on the Mac. Is this a known issue to you? The thread is here.

    Regards,
    Sebastiaan

    Hi Sebastiaan,
Thanks! I'm actually using OpenSesame on a Windows machine (since the eye-tracker is dependent on Windows), but I have it installed on a Mac and just tried to replicate the issue - I'm not sure I understand Frank's problem, but if I follow it correctly he's having a problem with a keypress occurring in one sketchpad event being treated as if it also happened in a following sketchpad event (so the key was not 'flushed' between the two events). Is that right? If so, then, yes I think this is a Mac issue. I dummied up a little experiment to see if the same thing would happen for me, and yes, it seems to. If I have:
    1) Fixation sketchpad (duration = 1000)
    2) Target sketchpad (duration = 0)
    3) Keyboard response

If I press a key when the target sketchpad is displayed, everything is as it should be, but if I press a key when the fixation sketchpad is displayed, then the target sketchpad never shows up.

I don't know if that helps.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi,
I should also make it clear what the problem with the media player is - it was with Windows, not Mac (I haven't tried to install the plug-in on a Mac yet). It works fine with the 'prepackaged' OpenSesame on Windows, but when I try to run from source, that's when it fails to load a dll (but doesn't specify which one).
Thanks again for such a cool piece of software, it's a real pleasure to play around with.
    Thanks!
    Mark
