[open] keypress problem

edited February 2015 in OpenSesame

Dear All

I am new to OpenSesame and trying to import an experiment which we were using on Presentation. At the moment everything works perfect. However I have one problem in one step of the loop. The steps of the experiment is as follows:

Step 1: Present stimulus for 2000 ms (Scetchpad)

Step 2: Present response/answer screen - keypress function (stechpad)

Step 3: Collect keyboard response ('m' or 'n' key press)

Step 4: Logger

Step 5 and 6: Feedback screens acording to the response type.

My problem is on the 2 nd step . Altough one should be enough to go to the feedback screen, you have to press the response 'm' or 'n' button twice for opensesame to intialize the keyboard response and go to the feedback screen. Do you have any idea how to solve this problem ?

    Hi Cumhur,

Step 2: Present response/answer screen - keypress function (stechpad)

Do you mean that you have a sketchpad-item, and have set the duration to keypress ? If so, then that's probably your problem: your first keypress is used to continue from this sketchpad, and your 2nd keypress is then caught by the keyboard_response item.

If you set the duration of this sketchpad to 0, the experiment will show the response/answer screen, and will immediately advance to the keyboard_response item which collects the response for the logger.

    Hope this helps,

    Wouter

Yeap I realized that it was my mistake, after reading through the tutorials again. Many thanks for the swift response.

    Hi there,

I am having a similiar problem as above. After showing a sketchpad item, the response in keyboard response has to be pressed twice. However, this only happens after each response has already been pressed at least once (M or Z).

My sketchpad duration is 0 and I have enabled flush pending keypresses.

    Are there any other solutions?

    Cheers,
    Catriona

    Hi Catriona,

would you mind uploading the experiment, so that I could have a look on it?

    Thanks,

    Eduard

Not sure if this is the best way to send it over. Let me know if it doesn't work, I'm not so hopeful. I've had problems transferring it over to other computers.

    Hi Catriona,

Which version of OpenSesame are you running?

I just tested your experiment with mine (2.9.4) and it worked like you want it to. So, only one keypress required to make the sketchpad disappear and start the recording phase.
