keys don't terminate display

Hi guys,
Here's the problem I've run into. I have an experiment that works fine on Windows 10 and Windows 7. But, I have a bunch of older Core Duo machines in my lab running Windows XP and on 3 out of 6, the key responses for the same exact experiment and the same latest OpenSesame distribution, don't work. That is, when the a sketchpad (with a picture) is presented and I press the response key the display does not terminate (haven't checked whether the response gets registered at all, but I should). Also, when I press Escape it stops the experiment but Q doesn't quit it afterwards. Any ideas what's going on?
Thanks,
marios

  • Hi Marios,

Is the capslock on while uppercase keys are not allowed? ;)

  • :) no, no...that was the first thing I checked! At first I thought it was the fact that some of the keyboards were USB and others PS/2 but as an experimentalist I ruled out that hypothesis too. I'll go back to check the Windows XP version across computers which are of the same make. Other than that, I'm running out of ideas!

  • And the keyboard layout? Sometimes Windows automatically switches layout from application to application.

  • yes, it was the language setting. Switching the language with Alt+Shift did the trick although I don't know exactly how the problem arose (and how to prevent it from happening). All my PCs have Greek and English keyboard inputs installed and I make sure English is selected before running OpenSesame. But I can work around it by adding a sketchpad at the beginning of the experiment to test whether the working keyboard layout is on.
