Time spent on questions

I created an open sesame experiment and when I try to check the log file for the time spent on each question response it shows the same time for all.

Hi Salma,

You'll have to be a bit more specific! What did you do exactly (e.g. attach the experiment script here to illustrate), what did you expect to happen, and in what sense doesn't it work as expected?

Also, in the future please choose a discussion title that is more descriptive and less pushy than 'NEED ASSISTANCE'! (I changed the title now.)

Hi Sebastiaan,

Sorry for the title, I've just been trying to figure out my mistake. I am unable to attach the experiment script per my supervisors request. I created an experiment that is intended to question the participant through first using a loop (showing different variables) then a sketchpad showing these different variables at random, then after each stimuli it would ask a question depending on the variable. The duration of the stimuli is 2000 milliseconds and right after I want to record how long it takes for the participant to respond the question yet in the log file it shows that time respond time for each question is exactly the same. Recording the speed is crucial to the experiment I am working on.

Hi Salma,

How do participants provide their response? And how do you log it? If you (or your supervisor) don't want to attach the experiment itself, a screenshot of the trial sequence would clear things up.

Hi Salma,

If you have a multicharacter question, like you do, there are (at least) two possible measures of response time:

• The time between the onset of the question and the first keystroke. This is not easily measured with a form.
• The time between the onset of the question and the moment that the participant presses 'Enter' to accept the response. You can get this quite easily by inserting a blank sketchpad after the form_text_input, and then subtracting the timestamp of the form_text_input from the timestamp of the sketchpad. The timestamps are the variables called time_[item name].
