media player not working correctly

Hi! I'm very new to OpenSesame, and I've been struggling with getting the media_player_mpy to work correctly. Essentially, the video that I want to use just flashes on the screen very briefly (less than half a second), and then only the audio plays on a blank screen. There isn't an error message or anything - it actually says the experiment finished successfully. I also tried to use both AVI and MP4 files, but it didn't make a difference.

The actual video is only a few seconds long so I don't think that size is the issue.

Any thoughts on how to fix this??

Thanks!

  • Hi @kkmin@kk1703 ,

What backend, operating system, and version of OpenSesame are you using? The most pragmatic workaround might be to switch to a different backend (in the General Properties tab). Does that resolve the issue?

    Cheers!

  • I switched to legacy and it works perfectly now! Thanks!

  • sorry to jump in an old thread, but I'm experiencing the same issue with videos (where they play, but the screen remains black for the entire duration of the clip). How does one go about switching to the legacy system. I have looked within the "tools>preferences" tab, but can't seem to see it in there?

    Thanks!

  • In the overview area, you find the first entry, usually called "Experiment". If you click there, you will see general settings to appear in the main window, there is also a drop down menu for the backend
