Hello again,

I recently posted about creating three different clocks which would move at different speeds. I was given a response saying that I could use three different videos with edited frame rates giving the videos a slow motion or increased rate of speed making the clocks attend to the same. I have done this now I must ask how they are uploaded onto open sesame?

Futhermore, the whole point of my experiment is to 'prime' participants in thinking time is going at different speeds and they will then view a video of a car moving across the screen - they will then be asked to estimate the speed of the car (which hopefully will be effected by their time perception). How would I build such an experiment? Specifically, how would I create a sequence of random allocations of the different clock speeds followed by a video of a car?

essentially:

clock video (randomly either fast, slow, real) - video of car - response

many thanks to any advice!

Andy

    Hi Andy,

You can play videos with the media_player_vlc plug-in. In your case, you could also consider using the (older) video_player plug-in. The latter doesn't support audio, but it does allow you to adjust the framerate, which seems useful in your case.

However, I'm afraid that your question, which essentially comes down to 'How can I make my experiment' is too broad! I would recommend first walking to the tutorial, which will provide you a basic understanding of OpenSesame. Once you have done so, and run into an issue, please don't hesitate to post your question here, including a detailed description of what you have so far, what you want to do, and what doesn't work right now.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Sebastiaan

    Hello Sebastiaan,

    I have used the tutorials and have set out my experiment into the following order;

    1. participant information
    2. slow clock video
    3. video of moving car

and so on for the real time clock and fast.

However, I need to put in a logging system in order to record participants response when they are asked how fast they think the car was travelling. I have used one before but I am unsure if you can record times such as '37' (which would be 37mph) or any other variation?

Also, I wanted the videos of the moving clock to be random to the participants in each trail. Would I use a sequence or loop for this?

    Thanks,
    Andy

The easiest way would be to use the form_text_input plug-in, which is allows you to enter multiple-character responses:

    That would be a loop!
