OSWeb is not working on IE 11 and Safari - Compatibility check
Hi,
I didn't know whether to put this under OSWeb or Jatos as, I think, it is in the middle of the two the problems lie.
When I try to run my experiment in Microsoft Edge it is working just fine.
Internet Explorer
However, when I try to open it in Internet Explorer (version 11.15), it won't even open. And it is the same error messages I get if I'm using the Worker ID in Jatos or the local Jatos server.
I get these error messages in Danish:
Translated into English, the errors are the following:
SCRIPT445: The object does not support this action (jatos.js (233,2)
SCRIPT438: The object does not support the property or method 'warning' (osweb.1.3.13.bundle.js (1,57058)
SCRIPT1002: There is a syntax error (jatos.js (6,1)
SCRIPT5009: 'onPageLoad' is not defined (start (31,16))
Chrome
When I'm using Chrome on my windows machine, it does load but first after a while and I get this message:
osweb.1.3.13.bundle.js:1 The AudioContext was not allowed to start. It must be resumed (or created) after a user gesture on the page. https://goo.gl/7K7WLu
- osweb v1.3.13
When I'm using my macOS (Big Sur), there is no problem with Chrome.
Safari
When I'm trying to open it in Safari, I get the following messages:
[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) (vendors~osweb.1.3.13.bundle.js.map, line 0)
[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) (osweb.1.3.13.bundle.css.map, line 0)

Do you have any ideas on how to get it working more smoothly on all the supported browsers as listed in the documentation? @sebastiaan, @elisa, @lvanderlinden?
I wonder whether it is related to the audio files in .ogg-format?
Best,
Martin
Comments
IE browsers are really outdated and not many people use them: ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers
Even MS will abolish them: https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/17/21372487/microsoft-internet-explorer-11-support-end-365-legacy-edge#:~:text=Microsoft%20will%20end%20support%20for,OneDrive%2C%20Outlook%2C%20and%20more.
Can you exclude them from your study?
Hi @kri
That is a good idea. I will tell the participants to avoid using IE and Safari then.
I have been piloting my study and one of the participants had a lot of trouble gaining access to the OSWeb link from the jatos server. It might have been because of an older operating system (mac os High Sierra), but the weird thing is that when he used Firefox, it went fine half of the study but suddenly it stopped responding. Do you happen to know what could be wrong?
Unfortunately, he didn't take any screen dumbs of the error.
Best,
Martin
Hi Martin,
Unfortunately this can have a myriad of reasons and without and error messages we won't be able to help you here. You can check in JATOS' log (if you have access) if there is something unusual.
Best,
Kristian
