[open] Some Opensesame problems under Linux (OS 0.27.4 running on Xubuntu 13.10)
I have a couple of issues with Opensesame on my Linux computer. First, I had to install Sebastiaans PPA version 0.27.4, as the version 0.27.4 on NeuroDebian obviously does not include expyriment which I want to use for my current experiment.
However, there is a more serious issue (it at least affects the ppa version): When I test an experiment (that uses expyriment) only the first test run works. When I want to rerun it OpenSesame freezes at the "preparing experiment" screen that precedes every expyriment experiment.
The only workaround I found was to set the option "Run experiments in a separate process".
Are these things known problems?
All the best,
Johannes

Hi Johannes,
This sounds like a problem with (de)initialization. Generally speaking, it is known that in some cases this causes trouble, which is actually why the 'Run experiments in a separate process' option exists. What exactly causes the issue in your case, I cannot tell, of course. And it can sometimes be a bit mysterious even to the trained eye.
If this is really a problem for you, you could try out the latest pre-release of 2.8.0. Under preferences, you will find a 'Runner' option that allows you to run your experiment in a separate process. This should avoid (de)initialization errors as well, and in a better way than before:
Regarding Expyriment not being part of NeuroDebian. That is a bit unfortunate, yes. Perhaps you can ask the Expyriment developers to look into this? If they know that there is a demand for this, they will probably more motivated.
Cheers,
Sebastiaan
