gnome-icon-theme-full package not available for resolving the missing icons in OpenSesame (Linux)?

Hi there,

This is more of a linux problem. Sorry if it is not appropriate to ask for help here.

My OpenSesame on Linux Mint is missing icons (particularly in the overview window).

I have gnome-icon-theme installed and some others. The OS website says I would need gnome-icon-theme-full package which appears to be no longer available for ubuntu. I tried to find if this package was maintained by third-party repositories but with no luck.

I wonder if there is any other way to resolve the icon problem? I read in an old post here that one may change the theme settings under preferences but I couldn't find anything in my OpenSesame.

Hi @boyao ,

I'm guessing you installed OpenSesame from source then, right? In that case, the icon theme is not included. (It is included if you, for example, install it from a repository.) I quickly uploaded a .zip file with the icons below. You need to extract them into opensesame_resources/theme/default .

Thank you very much for a quick reply!

I did install OpenSesame from the ppa repository.

I can find the icon folders in /user/share/opensesame_resources/theme/default.

The icons in the leftside menu are fine. Icons on the top menu bar and in Overview are not displayed.

I am on Linux Mint 20.2.

Perhaps I should try the Anaconda version?

Hi @boyao ,

I'm not familiar with Linux Mint directly, but I mainly use Ubuntu myself and installing from a PPA there generally works flawlessly.

I suspect (but it's just a suspicion) that there is an issue with different installations of OpenSesame that conflict with each other. Did you try to install OpenSesame through pip before deciding to use the PPA instead? That could have messed up things.

If you go to Menu -> Tools -> Plug-in and extension manager, you can see where the various components are installed. In your case, that should be in /usr/share/opensesame_extensions , etc. and not in some subfolder of your home folder (which is where pip would put them).

Perhaps I should try the Anaconda version?

That's also a good option!

I didn't install it via pip so everything is in `/user/share/opensesame_xxxxxxxx` as expected.

Maybe there is something weird about Mint Cinnamon.

But I can confirm that the Anaconda version works perfectly.
