Sketchpad and feedback items are only partially displayed

edited July 2022 in OSWeb

I created an experiment in OpenSesame which I want to run online via Jatos. When I run the experiment locally, everything is displayed in the way it should be.

However, when I upload it on the jatos server or when I simply use the "test experiement in external browser" option only the lower left corner of the sketchpad and feedback items are displayed (about 75% of the actual item) while text forms are shown normally. A couple of hours ago I did not have this problem, it suddenly started to be displayed in this weird way.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

  • Update: This seems to be an issue with firefox since I do not have the same problem when I run the experiment in google chrome. However, this is even worse. If I cannot rely on my experiment beeing displayed correctly by the browser my participants will use and this apparently changes over time, I cannot run the online experiment.

Does anyone know whether the experiment will run stable in google chrome?

  • Hi @Flavia,

Not sure what the issue may be but it sounds as if it is a browser issue, not an issue with the experiment per se. Have you checked that the zoom level in Firefox is set to 100%? If you accidently changed the zoom level to something else, if might affect how things are displayed.

To change the zoom level within your browser, press and hold while pressing the "+" key to zoom in, use CTRL & "-" to zoom out. Set the zoom level to 100% and see if the experiment now shows properly.

Note that zoom levels are a browser feature and so it can always be the case that you participants have it set to something else than 100%.

    Hope this helps,

    Fabrice.

  • Hi Fabrice,

unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. All versions of firefox I tested where already set to 100% zoom level. The odd thing is that text forms are displayed in the right size. The problem only occurs with the feedback and sketchpad items. I guess there is some incombatibility with opensesame and firefox that needs to be fixed.

In any case, I just decided to tell my participants that they need to use google chrome and hope this works out.

    Thanks for your suggestion!

  • Hi @Flavia ,

Can you post the experiment here (or a simplified version that illustrates the issue)? Your problem doesn't sound familiar to me, and although I suspect it's not an issue with OSWeb per se, I would to double-check.

  • Yes, you can try the following url:

Thank you for having a look at this!

I can also replicate the problem with the experiment from the gaze cueing tutorial:

I should maybe mention that I'm developping and running the experiments in ubuntu, I don't know if that could be a potential source for this issue...

  • HI @Flavia ,

For me, as far as I can tell, everything displays normally, also on Firefox. Can you post a screenshot to show what happens exactly?
