Converting the .txt data files to .xlsx files
Hi,
I am posting a similar discussion again, as I have not been able to receive help on this particular issue.
I have collected some data for my OpenSesame experiment using the JATOS server, but I am having difficulty converting the .txt data files to .xlsx files. When I exported (downloaded) all the results from JATOS as .jrzip and clicked on "Convert OSWeb results to .csv/xlsx" in OpenSesame, most of the time nothing happened. When something did occur, it was the following error message, which I don't understand:
I also tried converting the .txt files using online converters as well as Excel, but it didn't work as intended. The end product looked like this:
I only downloaded those data files with "FINISHED" states, so I don't think it's a problem with the data. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance.
Best,
Yoonah

Hi @ypark133 ,
There was a bug in an earlier version of the OSWeb extension that crashed on text files with non-ASCII characters, such as Hangul. If you run the updates provided by the automated updater in OpenSesame, this should be fixed.
Good luck!

Hi Sebastian,
Thank you for your response. I have a question before updating OpenSesame. It seems that updating OpenSesame is not recommended if I created the experiment with an older version, if I understood the documentation correctly (captured below). Will I encounter any issues running the experiment if I update OpenSesame?
Also, I am unsure how to "run the updates provided by the automated updater in OpenSesame" as you suggested. I do see a message in OpenSesame as shown below, but it is not clickable.
I am not sure where else to click in OpenSesame, so I Googled and found the installation website. Should I click on the green button below to update OpenSesame?
I look forward to hearing back. I sincerely appreciate your response.
Thank you,
Yoonah
Hi @ypark133 ,

Well, assuming that you're running the experiment online, and it has already been uploaded, updating OpenSesame on your own computer will not impact the experiment. (This warning mainly relates to updating OpenSesame on lab computers while running experiments in the lab.)
Also, I am unsure how to "run the updates provided by the automated updater in OpenSesame" as you suggested. I do see a message in OpenSesame as shown below, but it is not clickable.
A green update button will appear in the toolbar. You can click on that to open the updater.
