[solved] Problem with interstimulus interval within one single sketchpad

edited April 2014 in OpenSesame

Hi all!

Sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find anything that answered this question. I'm new to OpenSesame, so am probably asking something simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am trying to create an AXB auditory discrimination task with OpenSesame. Three stimuli (A, X, & B) will be played in sequence. I am having the subjects make keypress responses to say whether the second (X) is more similar to the first (A) or to the third (B), and have all the 3 sounds A, X and B inserted into one single sketchpad.

However, I wasn't able to find a way to set any interstimulus interval in between the 3 sounds, so now all 3 sound files play right after one another within each sketchpad (X plays immediately after A, and B plays immediately after X). I was wondering if there is a way to have a 1 sec interstimulus interval set in between each sound, so that they will not play immediately after the end of the previous stimulus.

Thanks in advance! I hope this question makes sense.

    Hi Rachel,

(...) have all the 3 sounds A, X and B inserted into one single sketchpad.

You cannot insert a sound into a sketchpad. What you can do, and probably did, is first show a sketchpad and have it followed by three sampler items. Once you get a grasp of OpenSesame's purely sequential way of working, things will probably become clearer.

To answer your specific question, you can specify a non-zero duration in the Duration field of a sampler. Or you can insert an advanced_delay in between two samplers. It sounds like either method will work for your purpose.

    Cheers!
