OpenExp error
Hi all,
I recently started contributing to a study that has been running for a few years already. It is about extinction learning processes and predicting the outcome of a treatment for anxiety disorders. For this, we use an experiment that someone else created in OpenSesame 0.26. Now sometimes during data collection, this experiment stops working because of the following error message:
Error: OpenExp error
Description: 'iti.png' is not a supported image format
However, when we run the experiment ourselves, it perfectly works and runs until the end. People have mentioned to me that an error might occur (not specifying which) when you already have the experiment open/ready on the laptop without actually having the participant starting the experiment. But that could not be the case as we made sure that would not be the case. There are also other images in the file pool that have the .png extension, so it is really puzzling me why we get this error message.
Might it have to do with the fact that we are using a relatively older version of OpenSesame? I know that it is not recommended to update Open Sesame during data collection, but maybe that should happen to have a proper data collection in the first place again.
Please let me know your thoughts on this or whether you need more information to be able to help me out.
Thank you so much in advance!
Kind regards,
Florien

Hi @Florien ,
OpenSesame 0.26 is about 12 years old (!) and I would definitely not recommend starting anything new with this version. However, if this is part of a running project, and the software has so far been doing its job, then indeed it makes sense to keep it the way it is.
Now as for this specific error, my understanding is that you have received this error message from someone (maybe a research assistant) but haven't been able to reproduce the error yourself, and possible also don't know when and where the error occurred exactly. Is that right?
If so, I would first take the error at face value:
iti.png
is probably corrupted for some reason (maybe a disk corruption). So I would first trace down the system on which this error occurs, and then take a look atiti.png
. My guess is that you'll find its corrupted. If this doesn't solve the issue, or if I'm misunderstanding the situation, then please provide more details about what exactly is happening!
