response to videos experiment does not run on osweb
Hi @sebastiaan,
I created an experiment using Open-sesame. It is a collection of funny videos and participants are asked to press keyboard keys whenever they hear something funny (while the videos are played). Someone in this forum helped me. I know literally nothing about how to use these things. I want to share the experiment online but whenever I try to import the study to JATOS the experiment stops after showing the first message, i.e. when the videos are to be played. Is there anything that I am missing?
kind regards,

Hi @sarita,
Welcome back to the forum!
I take the liberty to offer a response to your message since I remember we interacted earlier about videos in OS. The short answer is that, unfortunately, video is not supported in OSWeb. While OSWeb implements many of OS's features, others are not currently supported (for example, OSWeb cannot run Python code; all coding must be written in Javascript). The video player is among the features not supported in OSWeb. You can find a description of the features supported here; https://osdoc.cogsci.nl/3.3/manual/osweb/osweb/#supported-functionality.
One user recently suggested a way to present externally hosted videos in OSWeb through Javascript (see here: https://forum.cogsci.nl/discussion/7680/playing-video-in-osweb#latest), but while this method would be suitable to present instruction videos, it would not be suitable to present videos as stimuli and register responses to these videos.
So I'm afraid that, at the moment, there is no option in OSWeb to run the experiment you prepared in OS.
Kind regards,
Fabrice.
Hi @Fab,
Thank you for answering me again.
So, does it mean that it is impossible to conduct my experiment online? Or, do I need to change the software?
Hi @sarita,
I'm afraid it is indeed impossible to run your experiment online (see https://forum.cogsci.nl/discussion/5882/osweb-support-for-playing-videos). It may be that video stimuli become supported in the future but that's something only the developing team could comment on (cc @Daniel in case he has more up-to-date information on this).
Best,
Fabrice.
Hi @Fab,
Alright, I understand now.
Thank you again. Wish you all the best.
Kind regards,
